A friend gave me some curtains several years ago and since I needed new kitchen curtains, I got them out. They were floor length so I cut the bottom off to make valances (already hemmed) and used the top for the door and cafe curtains. I ironed in a hem, then used the hem stitch on my machine. They turned out pretty good.

Those are just perfect - and using the hemmed part for the valance was a neat trick - my old Kenmore just does zigzag and straight so I don't even have a hem stitch - oh well - I just use my fingers...
